REST API - Autoresponder and welcome letter options

My client would like to add contacts using the API. However, they do not want them to receive a welcome letter. They do want them to be added to a list that has an autoresponder.
I would like to confirm that this is possible and is there a specific method or recommendation as to how to do so.

By specifying the Opt-in

By specifying the Opt-in source as "ACTION_BY_CUSTOMER" in the XML like so: <OptInSource>ACTION_BY_CUSTOMER</OptInSource>, the contact will not receive the Welcome Email. If the list that the contact is being added to is an Autoresponder list they will be eligible for the Autoresponder Email.
 
ACTION_BY_CUSTOMER implies that the contact was added by the Constant Contact site owner. The alternative, ACTION_BY_CONTACT, implies that the contact is signing themself up. The Welcome Email only goes to contacts who the system sees as signing themself up.
